Batik or batique is a Malay word which refers to a generic wax-resist dyeing technique used on fabric. Batik is made by brushing or drawing hot wax over a selected areas of a cloth and then the cloth is dyed. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. The process is repeated several times to create more elaborate and colourful designs. After the final dying, the wax is removed and the cloth is ready to be wear.
